Drug Task Force | Print |  E-mail

The Drug Task Force investigates and prosecutes individuals and organizations involved in the trafficking of controlled substances and their illicit proceeds in Rockland County. The Task Force is staffed by seasoned prosecutors who work closely with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to combat drug distribution and related violence in each of Rockland’s towns and villages.

Cases handled by the Drug Task Force often involve sophisticated investigative techniques, such as undercover operations, search warrants and electronic surveillance. The Assistant District Attorneys assigned to this unit try felony drug cases in superior court. Some of these cases result in the seizure of cash and/or other assets obtained by the defendant during the course of their criminal activities. This bureau is also responsible for coordinating long-term narcotics investigations.

Oversight, management and direction of the Drug Task Force are under the command of the District Attorney’s office. Field operations are directed by the investigative staff of the District Attorney’s office with extensive experience in street-level and mid-level narcotics trafficking enterprises.

The Drug Task Force has partnered with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies since 1975. Police departments within Rockland County are encouraged to assign personnel to the Task Force, supporting a proven philosophy that a multi-jurisdictional approach combined with inter-agency cooperation leads to successful anti-drug efforts.

Since mid and high-level drug distribution networks often stretch beyond the boundaries of Rockland County, the Drug Task Force integrates resources and investigative efforts with the New York State Drug Enforcement Task Force (NYSDETF), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), New York State Police (NYSP) and the New York City Police Department (NYPD) to target, investigate and prosecute individuals who organize, direct, finance, or otherwise engage in narcotics trafficking in Rockland County and beyond.

The Drug Task Force works locally to combat open air and street-level drug dealing by teaming with Rockland County’s town and village police departments and the New York State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team (NYSP CNET). The combined efforts of local residents, Community Prosecutors and the Drug Task Force continue to make Rockland County a safe place to live and work. The Task Force also works closely with the Rockland County Intelligence Center to eradicate the criminal activity of street gangs and drug violators who commit a multitude of crimes and threaten the community.

Additionally, on the state and federal level, the Rockland County Drug Task Force works with the New York State Division of Parole, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Federal Bureau of Investigation Drug/Gang Unit. The Rockland County Narcotics Task Force has received national recognition for its leadership role in the use of investigative technology in support of its investigations.

Drug dependency attaches itself to all walks of life. The Drug Task Force works with a variety of community outreach programs, including the Rockland Council and other Drug Dependence (RCADD). RCADD provides the local community with prevention programs and services; resources for those affected by addiction; and support for those working to maintain sobriety.  Law enforcement cannot do it alone. To report the unlawful manufacture or distribution of illegal drugs in your community, please contact the Rockland County Drug Task Force confidential tip line: 1-888-559-0DTF (1-888-559-0383).
